Marcovaldo Fabrics

A dear friend introduced me to the fabulous Marcovaldo Fabrics line. I have an obsession with textiles and these seriously made my heart skip a beat. Rich colors, detailed designs and luxurious fabrics...oh my! Their current collection, inspired by Nelson Mandela, is filled with yummy animal prints, African inspired patterns and natural fibers. The husband and wife team even worked with Nelson Mandela’s grandson to develop the collection. Co-principal, Shani Moran says “Mandela [Collection] represents the textures and the smell of Africa." Check out more of the collection here

These are my favs below! African Wild in Hills Maize and Hills Burnt Orange. Le sigh. :)

Enjoy your weekend!

Girls' Night Out was a BLAST!! I must say, The Village really knows how to throw a party. There were tons of local vendors, area restaurants and even larger chains like World Market and Whole Foods all there to let us try and sample their products. The shopping was fantastic! The room was filled with local crafters, artisans and vendors with tables and tables of handcrafted merchandise.

My creative lady friends were all there! Island Time Fragrances, SOREECE Jewelry and Sew Sew Funky were selling like hotcakes! So proud of these ladies, they put so much hard work behind their brands and you can see it in the quality of their fabulous products. My uber talented friend, photographer/blogger Kayla Hood was there and I bumped into the always fabulous Gina from Banafrit Décor too! We even art directed an impromptu photo shoot for one of the vendors. Fun times!

If you missed last night, be sure to mark your calendars for next year. This is definitely one event
you don't want to miss!!

Check out my super cute Kente Cloth Cosmetic Bag I scored from Sew Sew Funky! I loooove it!!

Until next year ladies! Let's do it again!!

What's Your Style? Timeless Masculine

Usually the What's Your Style? posts feature a female model or celebrity with feminine interiors and accessories. Today I decided to go a different route. This one's for the guys! I wanted to talk about Classic Style and what's more classic than an Ozwald Boateng suit. This led me to the masculine side of interior design which is becoming more and more popular. The way of the not-so-stylish all black leather bachelor pad has gone away. Men are now thinking more about the details and styling of their homes and I must say...I applaud this!

Masculine interiors are usually of a classic or modern style with jewel toned or neutral colors, heavy weight textiles and natural or industrial materials. Timeless pieces like Chesterfield sofas and chairs or classic mid-century modern furniture designs are also staples. Check out the images below for some ideas on decorating your masculine interior.

#Pinterest Pic of the Day

I think I'm starting to really love dark walls. I just pinned this lovely room featured on Design Indulgences. Isn't it fabulous?! The dark charcoal walls, ceiling and flooring adds depth to the room making it fell open and airy. Who says dark colored walls will make a room feel smaller?!! In fact, it's the total opposite. You just have to be brave enough to go there.

Has anyone painted their walls a dark color? Which room and what color did you choose?

Domino Magazine's Best Rooms

Domino Magazine is currently on the newsstands again! The special edition features Domino's Best Rooms with style advice from 13 of their favorite designers, architects and stylists. I just picked up my copy. The $10 price tag was a tad bit steep but I'm hoping it's going towards bringing back new issues in the near future! Crossing my fingers!!

Who wouldn't love a lovely office like the ones below?!! I can't wait!

Mid-Century Re-Imagined

I absolutely love these mid-century pieces reupholstered in modern fabrics! It seems that everyone is on the mid-century kick these days, so adding a bold modern fabric can transform a mid-century staple into a one of a kind. These definitely stand out from the crowd! I will be adding this to my to-do list.

Madeline Weinrib Meets Mid Century Masters

A new exhibit at Sebastian + Barquet in Southampton features iconic mid-century designs by Gio Ponti, Vladimir Kagan, Ico and Luisa Parisi and more, re-imagined with Madeline Weinrib’s vibrant handwoven textiles. I love this matchup.

Oh, this chaise. As much as I hate the color purple, I would totally take a nap on this.

I made this print this weekend for my office space. "I dwell in possibility" by Emily Dickinson is an enchanting poem. Emily saw poetry and prose as limitless and I like to look at life in the same way. Anything and everything is possible! So HAPPY MONDAY to everyone and remember it's a new day, a new week and the possibilities are endless!

DIY: Wall Vignettes

Lately, my Pinterest timeline has been filled with lovely wall vignettes and I've been pinning away like crazy! Check out my inspiration board here. I have tons of art at home but have yet to hang anything so I decided to tackle a wall vignette in my own space. Turns out, it takes a little bit more planning than I thought. I'll walk you through my steps and hopefully it will save you time in creating your own.

Here lies the problem. An empty wall. How drab and boring! I thought of adding a large piece of art but decided to go with a photo collage vignette because it gives me a chance to show off more pieces of art and photography. Vignettes also add more pizzazz to a space, it sort of livens up the wall. It's also a chance to show your personality. Choose pieces that reflect you.

Step #1 - Choosing the Art
Oh my, I did not realize how much art I had. Wow! This became a very difficult decision. I decided to go with white and gold frames because I want to brighten up the room. I also wanted to add some sentimental pieces so I framed a few cards I received from friends when I moved from New York City to Dallas.

Step #2 - Arranging the Art
I suggest arranging the art on the floor. Play around with the layout until you find a look you're happy with. Have fun with it!

Step #3 - Update your Frames & Art
I decided to go with a white and gold color scheme but I had tons of perfectly good dark wood frames. So I used some gold metallic paint to update the frames and this Mayan Calendar plaque I purchased in Mexico. Don't run out and purchase all new frames, with a little paint you can easily update the ones you have.

Step #4 - Hanging the Art
I measured the width of my sofa, came in 10 inches on both sides and made a mark on the wall. This mark will be the edge of the collage. Next, I found this great tip from Somewhat Simple. Add a dab of toothpaste to the back of the frame where the nails would go. Press it to the wall and that will mark where you need to hammer your nail. Oh my gosh this tip made the whole process a breeze!

Here's the final product! I think it came out great! It totally brightens up the room and added some much needed pizzazz to my space. Now it's motivated me to refinish my dark wood side tables. Next up...a DIY on painting laminates. Stay tuned!
