The Countdown Begins

Alt Summit NYC 2013 is less than a month away and I'm getting very excited! This will be my first blogger conference and I'm looking forward to learning all I can to make this blog great. Plus, it's at the offices of Martha Stewart Living! {scream} I am really looking forward to being in my old stomping grounds of New York City, it's been 6 years since I relocated. It seems like yesterday that I was a young 20-something kid, beating the pavements of Manhattan trying to make it in the big city. What an awesome experience! Soon I'll be reunited with my friends and the city that molded me into the adult I am today. I can't wait!!

Alt Summit NYC in Martha Stewart Living

There's less than a month to go and we're starting to get excited about Alt NYC. It will be our second event at Martha Stewart, they graciously hosted Alt NYC last year, and we're counting down the days until June 20th.
When we opened up our June issue of MS Living and saw Alt Summit had made Martha's calendar, we admit, we squealed in delight. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Thanks, Martha!

Textile Designer Malene Barnett

I'm obsessed with patterns and textiles, so I was excited when a friend shared the work of Malene Barnett. Malene is a Brooklyn, New York based textile designer and the principal for Malene B Custom Handmade Carpets. Her carpet designs, inspired by her international travels and Caribbean heritage, are vibrant, artistic representations of global cultures.

I have to admit, it was really hard to choose which carpets to include in this post because I really love them all. The rich colors and unique patterns are refreshing to see in carpet designs. I'm totally inspired by her creations.
Malene's designs take you on a journey around the world. On the left is Moorea, inspired by the Palm fronds from Tahiti and on the right is Mehndi, capturing the 5000 year old tradition of henna.

Notable photographer Todd Selby captured these beautiful images of Malene's home. Her interior is also rich in color, texture and speaks to her travels around the world. View more photos of her home here

Southern Fried Paper Event + stelladallas

The gals and I had a ball last night! I'm pretty sure you can tell. Hence the 11:30am blog post. =) My creative sisters, Gina of Banafrit Décor and Kayla of Kayla Hood Design + Photography joined me for some school night fun in the Dallas Design District.

First we stopped by Southern Fried Paper for a Garden Party celebrating their new location. It's such a lovely space and right in the heart of the Design District. It's always a good time meeting fellow creatives and when there's a photo booth involved, well now that's a party!
Right next door is stelladallas and I had to stop by before leaving. I'm so glad we did. We had a great time chatting with owner, Amber Davidson. Amber is the epitome of a southern belle, so lovely and friendly. This is definitely one of my favorite shops in Dallas, it's filled to the brim with colorful patterns and textiles. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by.
