Last week was absolutely magical! Alt NYC was my first large blogger conference, and I didn't know what to expect. To say it completely blew my mind, is an understatement. The day was jammed packed with informative speakers, vendors, delicious food and tons of surprises. The atmosphere was so positive and inspiring. I'm feeling renewed, motivated and ready to take things to the next level!

The night before, the festivities kicked off with a Pre-Alt dinner sponsored by Bing at Sunday Suppers in Brooklyn. Located in an old warehouse, you're not quite sure what to expect from the exterior. When I stepped through the door, my mouth dropped. The all white room was gorgeous, and the floor to ceiling wall of windows overlooking the skyline was breathtaking! I must admit that my nerves were all over the place, but the dinner was a perfect because it allowed us to mingle and meet in a smaller setting. EVERYONE was anxious about the next day, and we shared in the excitement! Thanks to Bing for an incredible night!!

A HUGE thanks to Justin, the amazing photographer for the event. He captured so many beautiful photos. The portrait shots from the Bing dinner are my favorite!

It would take a full week to share everything I learned from all of the amazing speakers. Not only was the information helpful for bloggers, but I thought it was great for any entrepreneur. The keynote speakers were Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge and Garance Doré. They shared their experiences and what they've learned along the way, what worked and what didn't and how their brands have evolved. I will definitely share my notes by the end of the week.

Immediately following the conference was a cocktail hour sponsored by JCP and styled with Martha Celebrations. It was incredible and a perfect way to unwind after the long day.

It was a breath of fresh air to be in a room filled with creatives, all eager to learn and exchange ideas. I met so many amazing bloggers and everyone was incredibly friendly. A special shout out to these ladies for being such a delight! It was a pleasure to meet you all!!

How to Style a Kitchen in a Rental Space

Let's be honest, kitchens in rentals can be frustrating. You have no say in the cabinetry or the types of appliances. If you're lucky, you may end up with a good wall color, but typically it's your standard white. Well not to worry, rental kitchens are not your enemy. There are ways to dress them up and add your personal touch. Here's a few tips on how I dressed up my own kitchen and made it my own.
A rental kitchen is your chance to try something outside of the box. Choose a theme, a vibrant color or even a bold pattern. You want to draw the eye away from the standard fixtures and furnishings. I chose a Parisian theme for my own. Let your imagination go wild!

Flowers breathe new life into an interior, so use them to liven up the kitchen as well. Herbs, air plants or cut flowers are great for window ledges and countertops.
Painting the walls was not an option in my own space, because it would require painting it back white before I move. Instead, add a pop of color to a pantry door or the backsplash. It's a smaller area and will be easier to paint over. I wanted my kitchen to be fun and whimsical so I chose chalkboard paint.  Chalkboards in the kitchen are great for recipes, grocery lists or even just a fun sketch. It also keeps little hands very busy. My goddaughter's love it!
Instead of a small kitchen mat, use a runner to cover more surface area. It's another way to add instant color and pattern. Lastly, an easy touch of color is with fruits and veggies. Oranges, lemons and avocados look great on display.

Designer Profile: Patricia Urquiola

Spanish architect/designer Patricia Urquiola lives in Milan where she runs Studio Urquiola. She has designed for some of the most renowned firms, such as B&B Italia, Padova, Agape, Kartell, Cassina, Flos and Alessi. She is also responsible for the interior design of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona and has permanent installations at MoMA in New York. Her list of accolades are massive and she has designed everything from furniture, decor and tiles to restaurants and showrooms. I am always amazed by designers like Urquiola who live to create. It doesn't matter the object, the goal is always innovation and creating new ways of living.

INTERIORS: Unexpected Color Combinations

I find that I tend to gravitate to the same color palettes. Think outside the box and try color combinations that you wouldn't ordinarily expect. It will make for a much more interesting interior.

Alt Summit NYC: Mini Freak Out!!

I must admit, I had a slight freak out this weekend about my outfit for Alt Summit NYC. Because it's one of the shorter conferences and one long day of events, you need to be comfortable but chic, yet appropriate for day and night. You want your style to represent your brand and somehow measure up to the other 300 cool, creative, stylish attendees. Oy vey!

I've been shopping like a crazy woman and I've tried on tons of clothes but still could not make a decision. With less than a week before departing to New York I decided to call on a friend to come over and help me through this madness. After some much needed wine and an hour long fashion show, you know what we decided on? Something that was already in my closet. Seriously?!!

Isn't it funny how we stress over the smallest things? Well, the outfit is decided on and the business cards are finally being assembled. Only 10 more short days to go! Whoo hoo!

INTERIORS: American Pride

Don't you love the flag trend? I see the British Union flag used often but I love how these interiors incorporate the American flag into the decor.
