Set Design for Ink Master Season 3

As I may have mentioned before, I work in reality TV. Below are a few living areas on the show Ink Master, where several people live, work, compete and (occasionally) argue with one another. Ok, they argue quite a bit, but that's what makes it good! And why not do it in a really cool, well furnished loft?

Ink Master is a tattoo competition on Spike TV; so the style is industrial, a bit rock n roll, and the opposite of precious. However, too much of that can leave us (and the cameras) craving some color. After adding a Sandra side chair in red and some framed prints, the space became more stylish and accessorized.

The Ernest console from Arteriors looks very vintage (and weighs as much as an anvil), and the print is an enlarged antique lithograph. We reupholstered a Gordon Tufted Sofa in a gray cotton to make it look a little more casual than it did originally.

The wall, done in Benjamin Moore's Evening Sky, added a bit of (my favorite) color while keeping the manly vibe. We also had a budget to keep in mind, so we used the following affordable pieces: a vintage light fixture from Rejuvenation, the Gordon armchair from Home Decorators Collection, and the 118" drapes are from IKEA. The Luster Area Rug, also from Home Decorators Collection, adds that much needed bit of texture (and it looks really expensive in person!)

The worn cigar leather of the Kensington 2 Seater from Timothy Oulton, complemented the existing brick. Adding the modern, velvety (& on sale) Everett Armchairs prevents it from being too traditional or monochromatic. The faux-distressed and budget-friendly Twilight Area Rug from Home Decorators Collection gave more texture. The added bonus: on television, it looks like a one-of-a-kind, antique rug. Watch the season finale next week and see if you agree!

  1. I have been looking for the maker of that shag rug for the entire season! And I'm shocked to find it's not nearly as expensive as I thought. I definitely thought it was black and white from watching on tv. Anyway, thanks!

    1. Hi! It is the Luster Area Rug in the color pewter. And yes, it's so much more expensive than it looks.. They occasionally have delays / back orders. I know because I have ordered this rug more than once. The Light Gray is nice as well.
Here's the link, though you may have already found it. THANKS!

    2. Hi Bridget, thanks for the response! I'm glad you told me because I thought the one from the set was "Light Gray." Now I need to decide between the two. Thanks again :)
